BUTTERFLY ISLAND

A courageous tale about a community of island children who restore washed-away dreams through a metamorphosis of hope in action!

Welcome to Butterfly Island, where story and conservation merge, inspiring young readers to find purpose amid natural storms. This engaging picture book is perfect for children 5-9.

“Butterfly Island and the Invincible Crew” is the true story of Ellen, the plucky daughter and capable first mate of Captain Bob. When not on a boat, Ellen boldly leads her crew on a wildlife adventure to protect the island’s beloved monarch butterflies. When nature unleashes its fury, the tides change, delivering a mighty blow, and their quest to save the monarchs becomes perilous. Can Ellen and her crew summon the courage to rise above their losses and complete the mission?

Invincible – adj. too powerful to be defeated or overcome.

Tracy Dockray, creator of over 30 children's books and illustrator for Beverly Cleary,

works with Ellen Federico, featured on The Today Show and The New Yorker for her butterfly conservation efforts. Together, they tell Ellen’s unvarnished story of setback and success.

Tracy Dockray has illustrated more than 30 children’s books, including her most recent “Bright Dreams.”  Over the last decade, Tracy’s promoted early literacy efforts and equal access to books for children in underserved communities through Literacy Inc and work in public school libraries. When not in her studio or a library, she spends her summers on Fire Island and works with the SCA Sustainability Committee on her Milkweed to Monarch Program. Through this, she met Ellen Federico and was inspired by her incredible story of “Butterfly Island.”
